Sharing the Harvest Community Farm Project

By partnering with the Dartmouth YMCA, the Hunger Commission of Southeastern Massachusetts is futhering its efforts to provide nutritious food to those who need it most.  Sharing the Harvest is a grassroots effort to alleviate hunger for children and families at the local level from Fall River to Wareham by farming 1-3 acres of land at the Dartmouth YMCA.  Last year, volunteers harvested more than 6,000 lbs. of fresh produce which was then distributed to area food pantries, soup kitchens and other emergency feeding programs by the Hunger Commission.

Sharing the Harvest depends fully on volunteer support.  Opportunities are available for individuals, families, or local groups such as businesses, churches and community organizations.  As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to work in many different capacities, including:

   - planting
   - bed preparations
   - transplanting seedlings
   - harvesting

No experience is necessary!  Sharing the Harvest Community Farm Project provides the perfect opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to learn about farming, participate in a community building project and help hundreds of people in need.

If you're interested in learning more about Sharing the Harvest or contributing by making a monetary donation or volunteering, contact our volunteer coordinator at sharingtheharvest@yahoo.com or call the Dartmouth YMCA at 508-993-3361.
