Leadership Giving through the Navigator Society

The United Way of Greater New Bedford’s Navigator Society was created over a decade ago to as a way to pool the resources of some of our communities most generous and forward thinking leaders. Donors who contribute $1,000 or more annually to the United Way are automatically invited to become members of the Navigator Society and to take advantage of unique networking and recognition opportunities that go along with membership. Most importantly, Navigator Society members have the satisfaction of knowing that they are leading the way to building a stronger community…for everyone.

Planned Giving

Planned gifts are the best way to achieve your financial goals while promoting the long-term social health of our community. Planned gifts will be directed to United Way’s Endowment Fund ensuring that resources will be available to address Greater New Bedford’s most urgent needs for years to come.

There are different ways to make a planned gift to the United Way of Greater New Bedford and each have their own unique financial benefits to both the donor and the United Way. Some possibilities include:

Charitable Gift Annuities - A Gift Annuity is an arrangement whereby a donor makes a gift but receives a lifetime of income from the United Way. When the donor dies, the remaining capital reverts to the Endowment Fund and the gift keeps providing benefits to those in need. It is an excellent retirement supplement paying out at a generous income rate. There are also significant tax advantages such as partial income tax deduction for the gift and partially tax free income from the United Way.

Charitable Remainder Trusts - For larger capital transfers, a Charitable Remainder Trust provides broad flexibility and excellent tax treatment. The donor makes the gift into the Trust of his or her own design selecting the income rate he or she wants to receive. Like the Gift Annuity, the income can be for one or two income beneficiaries, paying until the second beneficiary dies. At that time, the remainder interest goes to the Endowment Fund to continue the good works of the United Way.
