2-1-1

Mass 2-1-1 is an information and
referral line that provides free,
confidential information to people
seeking support services, such as
child and elder care, emergency food
and shelter and substance abuse
treatment, 24 hours a day, 7 days a
week. 2-1-1 makes a critical
connection between individuals and
families seeking services and the
appropriate community-based
organizations and government
agencies.
Here are some of the ways 2-1-1
reduces costs for employers,
taxpayers and the government:
- Time is saved for families
and individuals through a
one-stop call center.
- The need for public
assistance is decreased because
of a timely connection with
appropriate intervening
services.
- A reduction in non-emergency
calls to 9-1-1.
- A reduction in new 1-800
numbers funded by government.
- Data collection provides
planning information for cities,
counties, and nonprofits
regarding call volume and types
of services requested.
- Information about government
changes and local programs
available through a
communication network.
- Businesses and state
agencies benefit from reduced
number of misdirected calls for
services.
